Fountain of Gold has Changed to Fountain of Blood

Chaos repeated. Not in the Middle East, not in Europe, but on the land of Papua. This time the Freeport mining area in Tembagapura is not conducive. Grasberg Mile 64-67, Mile 69, the old Helipad Area, and Bukit Bata bear witness to armed stories. The villages of Banti, Opitawak, Kimbeli, and Orwanob also became silent witnesses. The TNI and TPNPB accuse each other about which side started this commotion.

Behind the attitude of blaming each other, people must open their eyes wide that the people affected by chaos, their fate has not been considered.

After the refugees had migrated to Timika since Sunday (8/3) yesterday, pain, tears, sadness, disappointment, such as a daily scene in Tembagapura and its surroundings. Isn’t there just one sweet story from Papua besides bloodshed?

Papua, the earth with abundant gold, the flow of the river is like heaven for Indonesia, but increasingly leaving bad memories. Ahything is like turned red, as red as the blood of humans who died in vain because of the struggle for the hegemony of Indonesian power and TPNPB. The dialogue room seems to have been locked in by the mutual ambition of conquering both parties.

The refugees due to chaos cannot be underestimated. If you call Indonesia an independent country, no one should take up arms again.

Chaos and futile deaths actually show that independence in Indonesia is like a fairy tale in the Land of Papua. This must be stopped. Revenge, anger, will continue to grow from generation to generation if the country is just silent and let all this continue. How many more lives have to be sacrificed for a word of peace?

The path of peace seems increasingly steep, like the old Latin proverb, “Si vis pacem, para bellum”, if you want peace, prepare for war. Reconciliation ended up being like an antique decoration on display at the museum.

When asked to the victims of war, especially children and the mothers, their answers are always the same, “we want to live in peace, we want to go to school, go to work, make a living in peace.”

In a broader context, the international community needs to open eyes, be invited to see the real fate of refugees, and not just to justify who is right and who is wrong. but, who among them wants to open up and make peace with one another? Perhaps prayer is no longer able to be said. Fountain of gold have become  fountain of blood. (Kr)
